Among all the skills I have yet to master, the one I long to acquire most is sign language. Not only would it allow me to communicate with the hearing-impaired, but it would also open a window into a culture and community I have rarely had the chance to understand. My interest was sparked last summer when I volunteered at a community center and met a deaf boy named Leo. Unable to speak his language, I could only smile awkwardly, wishing there were some bridge between us. It was that very moment of helplessness that made me determined to learn sign language, so that no one would ever again be left voiceless in front of me. To begin, I plan to enroll in a beginner's course offered by a local association for the deaf. Meanwhile, I will practice with online tutorials and, whenever possible, converse with native signers, confident that persistence will eventually turn my clumsy gestures into fluent expression.

(Not only...but also)Not only would it allow me to communicate with the hearing-impaired, but it would also open a window into a culture

此處because句子本身用的是假設語氣的would,所以倒裝後變成「Not only would it allow...」。為什麼加分:比起平鋪直敘的「It would not only allow me to communicate..., but also open a window...」,倒裝句能製造語氣上的強調效果,讓閱卷老師一眼看出你熟悉進階句型,而不是只會寫簡單句。學生套用方式:只要句子中原本就有「not only...but also...」的結構,就可以把not only移到句首,並將後面的助動詞提前,例如:「Not only did she study hard, but she also helped her classmates.」

關係子句+非限定修飾the one I long to acquire most is sign language

學生套用方式:寫作時凡遇到「先行詞+關係代名詞(受格)+主詞+動詞」的句型,都可以大膽省略關代,例如:「The book I read last week was fascinating.」(省略that)。

Unable to speak his language, I could only smile awkwardly, wishing there were some bridge between us.

這裡「Unable to speak his language」其實是「Because I was unable to speak his language」的省略版,而「wishing there were...」 學生套用方式:當兩個子句主詞相同、且有因果或伴隨關係時,可以把其中一個子句改成分詞片語,例如:「Having finished my homework, I went out to play.」或「She stood by the window, watching the rain fall.」

so that 引導目的子句so that no one would ever again be left voiceless in front of me

為什麼加分:目的子句能清楚交代「為什麼要學這項技能」的深層動機,比單純寫「I want to learn sign language to help deaf people.」 學生套用方式:寫議論文或引導寫作時,想說明做某件事的目的,都可以用「so that + 主詞 + could/would + 原形動詞」,例如:「I study every day so that I could achieve my dream.」

分詞構句表結果/伴隨狀態confident that persistence will eventually turn my clumsy gestures into fluent expression

學生套用方式:在文章結尾想要表達自己對未來的信心或期待時,可以用「(Being) + 形容詞 + that子句」的分詞構句收尾,例如:「I will keep practicing, confident that hard work will pay off.」
