The graph above illustrates how senior students' preferences for their ideal overseas workplace shifted between 2014 and 2016. The United States, once the most popular choice, saw its share plummet dramatically from 60% in 2014 to a mere 15% in 2016. China, in sharp contrast, experienced a steady rise, climbing from only 10% to 45% over the same period, eventually surpassing the U.S. as the top destination. Meanwhile, Japan's popularity remained constant at 20% throughout the three years, neither gaining nor losing favor. Interest in other countries, though still minor, also doubled from 10% to 20%, suggesting that students' horizons were gradually broadening beyond the traditional top choices. As for me, were I given the chance to work abroad, Japan would be my first choice. Not only is its culture, with its unique blend of tradition and modernity, deeply appealing to me, but its proximity to Taiwan also makes it convenient to visit my family whenever I like. Furthermore, having studied Japanese for three years, I would relish the opportunity to put my language skills to practical use in a real working environment. Tokyo, in particular, with its countless career opportunities in technology and design, strikes me as the perfect place to kick-start my professional life.

分詞構句(though 省略主詞的讓步用法)Interest in other countries, though still minor, also doubled from 10% to 20%

這樣寫比寫成「Interest in other countries was still minor, but it also doubled from 10% to 20%」更精煉、閱讀起來更流暢,也展現你能靈活運用從屬子句簡化的能力,是閱卷老師眼中的進階句型。 The plan, though risky, could bring great rewards.

假設語氣倒裝were I given the chance to work abroad, Japan would be my first choice

If I were given the chance to work abroad, Japan would be my first choice.,屬於與現在事實相反的假設語氣(If + 過去式/were, S + would + 原形動詞)。 Were I to choose a major again, I would study psychology.

倒裝句(Not only 倒裝)Not only is its culture, with its unique blend of tradition and modernity, deeply appealing to me, but its proximity to Taiwan also makes it convenient

Its culture is deeply appealing to me,倒裝後變成 Not only is its culture...appealing to me。 (Its culture is appealing and its location is also convenient)更有層次感與強調效果,能清楚凸顯「不僅… Not only does exercise improve physical health, but it also boosts mental well-being。

分詞構句(完成式分詞表原因)having studied Japanese for three years, I would relish the opportunity

Because I have studied Japanese for three years, I would relish the opportunity...,由於主詞相同,可以把 because 子句簡化為分詞構句:先判斷動作發生在主要子句動作之前,所以用完成式分詞 Having + p.p.,再省略連接詞與主詞。 Having practiced the piano for years, she performed flawlessly on stage.

精準用字(strike as + kick-start 片語)strikes me as the perfect place to kick-start my professional life

I think Tokyo is a good place 更生動、更有主詞轉換的巧思(用地方當主詞,而不是用「我」當主詞開頭,避免全篇都是 I think / I believe 的單調句型)。 This internship strikes me as a valuable stepping stone to kick-start my career in marketing.
