In recent years, a growing number of high schools in Taiwan have relaxed their dress codes, allowing students to choose between uniforms and casual clothes. Since this policy was introduced, the campus has undergone a noticeable transformation. Walking through the hallways today, one can see students in outfits ranging from trendy streetwear to simple T-shirts and jeans, a stark contrast to the uniform sea of identical uniforms that once defined school life. This change has sparked mixed reactions among students. Some, embracing the newfound freedom, argue that being able to express their personal style boosts their confidence and makes school feel less rigid. Others, however, find the new policy more burdensome than liberating; having to plan an outfit every morning, they complain, is far more stressful than simply throwing on a uniform. Still others worry that casual clothes have introduced a new form of peer pressure, with students silently judging one another's fashion choices based on brand names or trends. As for myself, I would much rather wear a uniform to school than agonize over daily outfit choices. Were I to switch to casual clothes, I would inevitably waste precious time every morning deciding what to wear, time that could otherwise be spent reviewing notes or simply sleeping a little longer. Moreover, uniforms create a sense of equality that casual clothes simply cannot offer. Not until our school adopted uniforms did I realize how much unnecessary comparison could be avoided when everyone looks essentially the same, regardless of family income or personal taste. Last year, when our dress code was briefly relaxed for a special event, I noticed several classmates feeling anxious about not owning "fashionable enough" clothes, a worry that never arises when uniforms are mandatory. For these reasons, I believe that uniforms, far from being outdated or oppressive, actually help students focus on what truly matters: their studies and friendships, not their wardrobes.

Walking through the hallways today, one can see students in outfits ranging from trendy streetwear to simple T-shirts and jeans

取代「As one walks through the hallways today」這種完整子句。 這樣寫比用「When students walk through the hallways, they can see...」 學生可以在描述情境或背景時套用,例如:「Scrolling through social media, I often see students posting about exam stress.」

倒裝句(Not until 的否定副詞倒裝)Not until our school adopted uniforms did I realize how much unnecessary comparison could be avoided

這裡若寫成平鋪直敘的「I didn't realize how much unnecessary comparison could be avoided until our school adopted uniforms」雖然文法正確,但語氣平淡;用倒裝句則強調「直到… 學生可以套用在任何「直到某事發生才明白/才發生」的情境,例如:「Not until I failed the exam did I understand the importance of daily review.」

Were I to switch to casual clothes, I would inevitably waste precious time every morning deciding what to wear

這句是「If I were to switch...」 比起平鋪直敘的「If I switched to casual clothes, I would waste time」,這種倒裝假設句能明顯展現考生對進階文法的掌握,是頂標範文常見的技巧。學生可以套用在任何假設情境的申論,例如:「Should schools abolish uniforms entirely, students might face even greater social pressure.」

精準進階字彙與片語a stark contrast to the uniform sea of identical uniforms that once defined school life

這裡使用了「a stark contrast to...」(與…形成鮮明對比)這個精準且道地的片語,搭配「the uniform sea of identical uniforms」的巧妙用字(uniform 同時作形容詞「一致的」與名詞「制服」雙關使用),比起單純寫「This is very different from before」更有文學性與精準度。 學生可以在任何比較今昔差異的題目中套用,例如:「The bustling night market stood in stark contrast to the quiet streets of the morning.」

子句內插入的分詞構句(補充說明)having to plan an outfit every morning, they complain, is far more stressful than simply throwing on a uniform

此處「having to plan an outfit every morning」是動名詞片語作主詞的用法,搭配中間插入「they complain」作為補充說明的插入語(Parenthetical Insertion),打斷主要句子結構卻不影響文法完整性。 這種寫法比「They complain that having to plan an outfit every morning is more stressful」更靈活多變,展現句構的掌握能力。學生可以套用在表達「某些人抱怨某事」的情境,例如:「Staying up late to study, some students admit, often backfires on exam day.」
