In recent years, it has become increasingly common to see high school students working part-time at convenience stores, bubble tea shops, or fast-food restaurants. Among the most common reasons for taking on such jobs are a desire for financial independence and a curiosity about life beyond the classroom. Some students want to earn their own pocket money so that they do not have to rely entirely on their parents, while others simply wish to experience what it is like to be part of the workforce before graduation. As for the type of work, cashiering is probably the most popular choice, since it requires little prior experience and teaches students how to handle money and interact with customers. Preparing drinks at a bubble tea shop is another favorite, not only because the pay is often decent but also because it allows students to pick up a practical skill. As for whether high school students should work part-time while still in school, I am in favor of it, provided that the job does not interfere with academic performance. Had I not taken a part-time job at a bakery last summer, I would never have learned how demanding yet rewarding it is to earn money through my own effort. Standing for hours, dealing with impatient customers, and memorizing dozens of bread names taught me responsibility and time management far more effectively than any textbook could. My classmate Amy, who works part-time at a convenience store on weekends, told me that the experience made her realize the importance of communication skills, something she rarely practiced in school. Of course, moderation is essential; students should never let a job take priority over their studies. Only when part-time work is treated as a valuable addition to, rather than a substitute for, education can it truly benefit a student's growth.

(Among the most... are...)Among the most common reasons for taking on such jobs are a desire for financial independence and a curiosity about life beyond the classroom.

這是一種「介系詞片語放句首」造成主詞與動詞倒裝的句型,正常語序應為『A desire for financial independence and a curiosity about life beyond the classroom are among the most common reasons...』。 (Among the most common reasons for taking on such jobs)被提前,主詞(a desire...and a curiosity...) 學生可以在列舉原因或舉例時套用這個句型,例如寫環保主題時可以說:『Among the most effective ways to reduce waste are recycling and reducing single-use plastics.』

(Had I not + p.p.)Had I not taken a part-time job at a bakery last summer, I would never have learned how demanding yet rewarding it is to earn money through my own effort.

(If I had not taken..., I would never have learned...),但省略 If 並將 had 提到主詞前,形成倒裝語氣,是學測作文中非常加分的進階文法,因為大多數考生只會寫『If I had not..., I would have...』 使用這個句型時要注意:主句用 would/could/might + have + p.p.,倒裝的子句用 Had + 主詞 + 過去分詞。 的情境,例如:『Had I not joined the debate club, I would never have discovered my passion for public speaking。』

(Standing..., dealing..., and memorizing...)Standing for hours, dealing with impatient customers, and memorizing dozens of bread names taught me responsibility and time management far more effectively than any textbook could.

(Standing for hours / dealing with impatient customers / memorizing dozens of bread names)並列作為句子的主詞,屬於動名詞片語平行結構,同時也具有分詞構句精簡句子的效果,避免寫成冗長的『I stood for hours, I dealt with impatient customers, and I memorized...then these experiences taught me...』。 學生可以在描述一段經歷教會自己什麼道理時套用,例如:『Waking up early, planning my schedule, and reviewing mistakes helped me improve my grades significantly.』

關係子句補充說明(who works part-time...)My classmate Amy, who works part-time at a convenience store on weekends, told me that the experience made her realize the importance of communication skills, something she rarely practiced in school.

這裡使用非限定關係子句(non-restrictive relative clause),以逗號將 who works part-time at a convenience store on weekends 插入主詞 Amy 之後,補充說明她的背景,而不影響句子主要結構(Amy told me that...)。 學生可以在舉例佐證時套用這個句型,例如:『My friend Tom, who has volunteered at an animal shelter for two years, often tells me about the joy of helping animals in need.』

Only when 倒裝句(強調條件)Only when part-time work is treated as a valuable addition to, rather than a substitute for, education can it truly benefit a student's growth.

當『Only + 子句』放在句首時,主要子句必須採用部分倒裝,也就是助動詞(此處是 can)要提到主詞(it)之前,寫成『can it truly benefit』而非『it can truly benefit』。 也具有強調語氣的效果,比單純寫『Part-time work can benefit a student's growth only if it is treated as...』 學生可以在結論段落用這個句型總結一個條件式的重要觀點,例如:『Only when students manage their time wisely can they balance academics and extracurricular activities successfully.』
