Whenever a typhoon approaches Taiwan, local governments must decide whether to declare a day off based on weather forecasts, and the outcomes can be strikingly different from what people expect. In the first picture, despite the announcement of a typhoon day, the weather remains calm, so instead of staying safely at home, crowds of people flock to shopping malls and cinemas, lining up patiently behind the railings as if it were an ordinary holiday. In the second picture, however, the forecast turns out to be accurate: rain pours down heavily, visibility is poor, and motorcyclists in raincoats struggle to make their way through the flooded streets, weaving dangerously among cars under the pelting rain. As for my own opinion, I believe that a typhoon day should be treated with caution rather than excitement. Not only does venturing out in severe weather put one's safety at risk, but it also increases the burden on rescue workers who may already be dealing with emergencies. I still remember one typhoon day when, instead of staying indoors, I went out with friends to a night market, only to find ourselves soaked and shivering within minutes. From that experience, I learned that no matter how tempting a day off may seem, our safety should always come first.
這是「not only...but also...」 這個句型比單純寫 "Venturing out in severe weather puts one's safety at risk, and it also increases the burden on rescue workers." 學生可以在自己的作文中套用此句型來加強論點的層次,例如寫環保主題時可說:「Not only does recycling reduce waste, but it also saves natural resources for future generations.」
比起寫成 "Although the government announced a typhoon day, the weather remains calm.",用 despite 可以讓句子更緊湊,減少重複使用連接詞子句的單調感。學生在描述對比情境時都可以套用,例如:「Despite the heavy rain, many students still went to school.」
學生可以在描述動作畫面時套用,例如:「The children ran across the field, laughing loudly under the sun.」
(I remember a typhoon day. I went out instead of staying home.) 學生可以套用在敘述個人經驗時,例如:「I recall a rainy afternoon when, instead of taking an umbrella, I decided to run home.」
此處使用「struggle to make one's way through + 地點」這個慣用語,精準傳達出「費力地穿越」的畫面感,比起簡單寫「motorcyclists ride on the flooded streets」更具體生動,也更貼近圖片中雨勢滂沱、能見度低的情境。 學生在描寫困難情境時都可以套用此片語,例如:「Workers struggled to make their way through the crowded subway station during rush hour.」
